Pyranose structure of a sugar is defined as the six membered cyclic structure of the sugar that consists one oxygen atom and five carbon atoms as the part of the ring. And anomers are the sugar molecules which have different spatial arrangement of substituents around carbon 1 of sugar. Carbon 1 of pyranose sugar is known as anomeric carbon.

In α anomer of sugar, (-OH) hydroxyl group attached at carbon 1 is pointed down and on opposite side of (-CH2OH) group present at carbon 5. α anomer of the given sugar is written as follow:
