HOw many times can DNA segments be transcribe? Also, can mRNA molecules be reused?

Step 1

Transcription is the process in which mRNA is synthesized from DNA. This process takes place in the nucleus. A DNA strand is used as a template to make an mRNA molecule. Initiation, elongation, and termination are the three steps in transcription.

Step 2

During initiation, an enzyme called RNA polymerase binds to a sequence of DNA called the promoter. Binding of RNA polymerase causes separation of the DNA strands. Each strand is now called a template which is required for transcription. One or more general transcription factors help RNA polymerase.

During elongation, RNA polymerase adds nucleotides to the template strand forming a chain that grows from 5' to 3' end. This enzyme forms the mRNA molecule, using complementary base pairs.

During termination, the formation of mRNA is stopped when the RNA polymerase crosses a stop sequence in the gene. After termination, the complete mRNA strand is detached from DNA.
