Expert Solution
Step 1
Haversian canals are microscopic channels found in the bone that contain blood vessels, lymphatic vessels, and nerves. These canals run parallel to the long axis of the bone and are surrounded by concentric layers of bone tissue called lamellae. The Haversian canals and the surrounding lamellae make up the basic structural unit of compact bone, known as an osteon or Haversian system.
