- Researchers wanted to find out if late night food consumption impairs concentration and alertness in adults inthe U.S. They offered financial incentives to selected U. S. business owners of large, medium, and smallcompanies, asking them to recruit their employees to participate in a study. The study took 4 days, and allparticipants had to stay in designated hotel rooms starting at 8PM for each night of the study. There were nohotel nor food costs for the participants. Participants were randomly divided into two groups by theresearchers. For three consecutive nights, one group was given access only to water after 8PM while theother group had access to unlimited food. No alcohol was allowed for either group.
