Question

A 0.0896-gram sample of water is placed in a 250.0-mL sealed container. Is there any liquid present when the temperature is held at 70.0°C:

I got 0.560 atm, and the equilibrium vapor pressure of water at 70C is 0.308, so it has to condense until the vapor pressure is 0.308. However this is my question, what mass of water will condense?

Expert Solution
Step 1

Let firstly assume that equilibrium vapour pressure of water =0.308atm

Hence PV=nRT

T=70+273=343K

R=0.082Latm/molK

V=0.250L

n=0.308*0.250/0.082*373=0.00273mols

Therefore,mass of water=0.00273*18g/mol

          =0.0492g
