Caudill 1 Session 3 Question and Answer Erica Caudill Adult Seminar Studies II Prof. Mike Voris 29 October 2023 1. According to Bickel and Jantz (2003), what is the main theme of the Bible? The Bible is all about Jesus.   The Old Testament is an account of a Nation. The New Testament is an account of a Man. The Nation was founded and nurtured by God to bring the Man into the world. His appearance on the earth is the central event of all history. The Old Testament sets the stage for it. The New Testament describes it. (Halley, 2014) 2. How does this theme compare to your current view or understanding of the Bible?  When I think of the Bible as a play with five separate “acts,” I can see how this could be a way to view the Bible. “In the great drama of human history, God has written Himself into the plot (Bickel & Jantz, 2003, p.61). Although I prefer to think of the Bible in a more revered way, I suppose this could help someone to look at the Bible as a drama with different acts, and this could help the reader relate more easily.
Caudill 2 3. How can understanding the big picture of the Bible help you as you seek to apply Scripture to course content? (Provide specific examples to support your response, making sure to also incorporate this week’s Biblical Perspective reading.) The bigger picture is that Jesus died on the cross for our salvation so that we may have everlasting life in the kingdom of Heaven. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (New International Version, 1973/1984). God sent Jesus to save the sinners and to die on the cross to cement their redemption, as discussed in Biblical Perspectives. This helps me apply Scripture because I can understand the reasoning behind the scriptures regarding who God is and why he did what he did. Although I struggle to apply scriptures, I am working hard to improve!
