1. The Joints 1. Define two functional classifications of joints? - Functional: determined by the degree of movement ability of the joint. - Structural: determined by the type of connective tissue and wether there is a cavity located at the joint 2. Describe the key structural similarities between the ankle and knee. - Both are synovial hinge joints 2. Muscles of facial expression. 1. Compare and contrast the functions of the Zygomaticus major and Zygomaticus minor in relation to movement of the mouth. - The Zygomaticus major originates from the lateral side of the zygomatic bone while the minor originates from the anterior side. They both movee the lip although in different ways. The major lifts and pulles the corner of the lip while the minor elevates the upper lip. 2. Name two sphincter muscles of the face. - Orbicularis oris and Orbicularis oculi 3. Muscles of the cheeks and mouth. 1. Describe the Masseter muscles origin, insertion and action. - The Masseter originates on the zygomatic bone, the insertion is on the lateral and angle ramus of the mandible, and then elevates it. 2. Which muscle compresses the cheeks and which cranial nerve would play a role in this action? - The Buccinator muscle compresses the cheek and cranial nerve Vll innervates. 4. Muscles of Chewing 1. Define the following movements in relation to chewing: 1. Protrusion: moves the mandible anteriorly, lateral pterygoing produces movement. 2. Retraction: moves the mandible posteriorly, the masseter produces movement. 3. Elevation: moves the mandible superiorly towards the upper teeth, medial pterygoid produces movement. 4. Depression: moves the mandible inferiorly.
5. Muscles of anterior abdominal wall 1. Based on the information in the Draw it to know it tutorial, describe a "sit-up" or crunch that would work both the Rectus abdominus and the internal oblique? - Doing a half situp would work both of these areas because the rectus abdominus would strain to keep balance at that angle, rather than coming completely up to a resting position. 2. Which muscle compresses the abdomen and depresses the ribs? - Transversus abdominus 6. Muscles of Respiration 1. Name three muscles used for inspiration (inhale)? - Diaphragm, anterior scalene, external intercostals. 2. Where does the diaphragm insert? Describe this insertion structure. - Inserts into the central tendon, the diaphragm then contracts expanding the thoracic cavity. 7. Superficial muscles of the back 1. This muscle is functional in adduction, extension, and medially rotating the humerus along with depressing the scapula. Name the muscle? - Latissimus dorsi 2. Which two muscles are named after a geometric shape? - Trapezius and rhomboideus 8. Muscles of the Rotator Cuff 1. Compare information from your reading and tutorials. Which two muscles listed in the Posterior scapula tutorial are part of the rotator cuff? - Supraspinatus and infraspinatus 2. Which plexus (nerve network) innervates the muscles of the posterior scapula? - Brachial plexis 3. Identify the muscles named for their tupe or cylindrical shape. - Orbicularis oris and Orbicularis oculi 9. Thoracic muscles: Anterior 1. This muscle flexes flexes, adducts, and medially rotates the humerus.
