1. Compare and contrast regional anatomy and systemic anatomy, including one example of each. While we can describe regional anatomy as more topographic, systemic anatomy hence SYSTEM takes to describing systems as opposed to exact location of all parts of the body. 2. Name and describe four types of tissue in the human body. The four types of tissues found in the human body include Epithelial, which includes bunches of cells that lay on the exterior parts of our body, they also can be found lining other passages and vessels inside the body. Next is Connective tissue which holds and connects all of our organs and cells together. Muscle tissue provides movement to the body and can stretch and contract to help aid the movement. Lastly nervous tissue provides communication in our body, mainly by way of nerve impulses. 3. Explain how body temperature is regulated by negative feedback. What role does the nervous system play? On the scale between positive and negative feedback, our body deals with extreme temperatures by producing sweat through sweat glands, which is the body’s attempt at reducing the rising temperatures. Our nervous system is pretty much a complex system of messages and commands, the nervous system is what helps carry out the negative feedback response, or to decrease whatever may be causing a harsh change in homeostasis. 4. Identify the body planes of dissection and the organ for each of the following images: a. A coronal plane dissection of the cranial (brain) cavity. B. This dissection also represents a coronal dissection, meaning it was cut (shown) vertically through the heart.
5. Name the two sub divisions of the dorsal body cavity and describe the contents. The two subdivisions of the dorsal body cavity include the cranial and vertebral cavities. Our cranial cavity is the shell that holds the brain while the vertebral column includes the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. 6. Name the subdivisions of the ventral body cavity and describe the contents. Within the ventral cavity lies the thoracic and abdominopelvic cavities. Our thoracic region includes organs such as the heart and trachea while the abdominopelvic region includes lower organs such as the digestive system (stomach, liver, kidneys, pancreas). 7. List and give one example of the eight functions of living organisms. Homeostasis and reproduction are the two most important functions of living organisms. A good example of maintaining homeostasis is body temperature and external forces that may cause the body temperature to increase or decrease, and the nervous system being able to carry out the external information of the changing temps. Then we use negative feedback to “solve” the problem. 8. List at least two organs for each of the nine regions of the abdominopelvic cavity. Right hypochondriac - The right lobe of the liver, gallbladder Epigastric Region - Pancreas, part of the stomach and liver Left Hypochondriac - The spleen and some of the stomach Right Lumbar - Colon and right kidney Umbilical Region - A lot of things, stomach and small intestine
