Class,
Institutionalized racism
is also known as
macro-level systematic racism
, is the policies,
practices, and rules set into place and incorporated into a society. Because of it being a “norm”
and sewn into a culture/society, the problems regarding racism have not only continued, but they
have also increased, which means that basically, an entire society of people support this type of
behavior(Institutionalized Racism, 2023).
Treating people badly for no reason whatsoever, other than something out of their control,
something that should be irrelevant in the big scheme of life solely because of their race, is just
unacceptable!
Institutionalized racism is more or less a societies way of life; it has been
established deep within the roots, and has become a normal part of who they are.
Institutionalized racism is still very much present in modern day society, it is illegal, but it seems
as if organizations, societies, and individuals in general, have figured a way to get around the
law. They get away with it because the
“
mechanisms operate independent of the intentions and
actions of individuals, so that even if individual racism is not present, the adverse conditions and
inequalities for racial minorities will continue to exist (Fitchburg State University, 2023).”
Interpersonal racism
is also called individual racism, but it simply is referring to a person’s
own individual support for racism: their beliefs, views, and opinions. How a person relays those
inner feelings or how that racism is portrayed, can be intentional or unintentional as well as
active or passive (Fitchburg State University, 2023).
