2 \ Application of the Strength Based Perspective Similarities~ The two families both have a child atending a childcare program. Both families have working adults. They are both struggling financially as a family. Family A survives off one part time job and family B is seeking child support. Differences~ Family A are illegal immigrants new to the United States. Family B are legal United States citizens. Family A has both parents present in their household. Family B has single mother, and the father is incarcerated. Family A has two children and one on the way, and family B has one child. Dreams are present in both families. However, the difference in dreams is that the A family wishes to get documents for citizenship and family B takes night classes to get her GED and wants to teach preschool. Strengths ~ Strengths of family A are that both parents are present in the home. They both are working. Family A children atends childcare program. Family B has a working single mother in household. She volunteers at her child’s school and takes GED courses at night. Use of Knowledge~ I will use this knowledge in my early childhood profession daily. Every family is unique individuals and strengths and struggles vary from families. Each family has their own culture and beliefs and not all family dynamics may look the same. Through strength-based perspectives, I will also get to know each family personally. Reading a short bio or hearsay is not always enough or accurate. I will take the time to understand their culture. I will also learn their similarities, differences, and strengths compared to my own strength-based perspectives.
