Think of the various types of marriage patterns that you have read about in this module. Do you feel that marriage will always exist as an institution? Be sure to bring in different cultures and to give specific examples in your answer. In response to your peers, assess whether your classmates discussed factors that you had not considered and offer a factor they did not consider. I believe that marriage will always exist as an institution, in some way or another. I do, however, believe that the way it will be conducted will continue to change and adapt per generation. Chapter 16 talks about the different types of marriages across the globe. From polygamy to the Christian ideal marriage of man and woman, many kinds are now being eliminated as well as developed. Many cultures, including ours, are fighting for the rights of LBGTQ+ members to enter matrimony. We are also seeing a decline in polygamy across the world, slowly being eliminated from practice (Welsch, 2019)." For at least two centuries American pastors, priests, and rabbis have preached that sex is reserved for marriage; it is primarily for procreation" (Welsch, 2019). This sentence was especially interesting to me to analyze. This definition of marriage is now changing in society. Sex exists outside of marriage in our culture, as do children. It is also not a requirement to have children if you are married. Marriage is utilized for many reasons. In our society, that is typically for love and partnership. It is an economic decision, as well. In other countries, two families may choose to wed their children as a form of union between them. While we are seeing the model in which marriage has taken part in the past change, such as marrying at a later age, I believe we will still see it continue to exist, whether for romantic or economic reasons in the future.
