Book Analysis: The Great Commission to Worship Summary The Great Commission to Worship: Biblical Principles for Worship-Based Evangelism by David Wheeler and Vernon M. Whaley is a book that examines the relationship between worship and evangelism. They intertwined worship and evangelism together to show how much they are connected. “Thus, evangelism and worship have a unique relationship.” 1 (Wheeler and Whaley 2011). It really helps the reader to understand how as Christians we are transformed through worship because “the great commission to worship is relational.” 2 It has to do with our relationship to God and relationships with other people also. The book explains the” process to become a great commission worshipper using these five steps is formational, transformational, relational, missional, reproducible.” 3 (Wheeler and Whaley 2011). This book has discussion questions at the end of each chapter which helps you to reflect on what you have learned from the chapter. Which brings a plus because many times it helps you to think about what you have learned. Book Analysis: The Great Commission to Worship 1 Wheeler, David A, and Vernon M Whaley. 2011. Strengths This book is just so awesome that it highlights and explains what worship is and the difference between worship and evangelism. It breaks down what praise really is and opens the eyes of the reader to understand what true worship is and is not. It explains how. “In order to become a great Commission Worshipper, we must see and recognize Jesus for who he really is.” 4 (Wheeler and Whaley 2011). I find this is very important because it helps the reader to understand that God should be the focus and the vital importance why you worship. Another strength is how it shows how “The Holy Spirit is in the business of transforming lives from old to new, dead to living, hurting and broken to healed and recreated.” 5 (Wheeler and Whaley 2011). I also see as a strength they list the ten principles for developing “lifestyle worship evangelism”. I also liked the questions at the end of each chapter which help the reader to reflect on what they have read and learned. This is an added plus which makes the whole book a great book to have in your home library. Will be a go to for anyone in ministry as a guide to help others.
