Cultural Artifacts
My first work of composition is called “The Lamentation” by Giotto di Bondone. This art piece is a depiction of christ’s death followed by his mourners. This piece of work is from the Italian Renaissance culture during the 1305 era. The first public appearance of this art piece was located
at the Scrovegni Chapel in Padua, Italy. my Second piece of artwork is called ‘The Adoration of the Magi’ by Sandro Botticelli. This piece of artwork is part of the Italian Renaissance culture during the 1475 era. This work was painted to depict members of the Medici family who were the de facto rulers of Florence. The first public appearance of this art piece was in Uffizi Gallery in Florence Italy.
Common Theme
The common theme share by both bodies of work is admiration of life. It is very clear in that Giotto intended to convey lament of Christ’s death on the cross and the agony of his mourners thereafter. Although this piece is displaying a visible death and mourners, there is a sense of admiration of Christ as the mourners are gathered to pray and lament over his death. The angelic figures faces, and positioning of their bodies also symbolize both despair and joy because Christ’s is soon to be resurrected. The painting of ‘The Adoration of Magi’ depicts the celebration/admiration from the villagers of a new life entered this world. This piece also depicts gift offerings to the parents of the new infant.
Personal Experience
The theme of admiration of life is connected to my personal experience as a devote christian and follower of Jesus Christ. I’ve given my life to Jesus in the year 2018 and I’ve studied out the birth, death, burial and resurrection of Christ Jesus to thoroughly learned about Christ and to 2
connect with him spiritually. The detailed painting of the biblical accounts of Jesus’s death and resurrection is perfectly depicted in ‘The Lamentation’. It is absolutely remarkabable. Also, the admiration of a new birth in the painting ‘The Adoration of Magi’ bring nostalgic memories and experience of giving birth to my own children.
Profession
Admiration of life is a broad vision and context that gives respect to ones practiced Religion or spiritual journey. This theme in turn promotes the celebration of life through birth, rededication of Self to a higher power or nostalgic memories of the life of a person who has passed on from this world, such as those who become new mothers, pastors or clergy who serves others in a nurturing, loving and spiritual capacity may be impacted by this theme. It is beneficial to understand the importance of humanities in roles as being a mother or serving a community as a pastor, providing a naturing environment, spiritual growth or encouragement to others that can impact the lives of children’s upbringing and the public in general.
Humanities Resources
My first choice is a brief analysis about the painting of ‘The Lamentation of Magi’ by Marco Grassi, A Masterpiece Reconstructed" Museum of Biblical Art, New York. June 8-September 12, 2012. Second reference is a news publishing about the painting of ‘The Lamentation of Christ’ by the Independent Digital News and Media Limited, 2009. Third choice of resource titled “A Giotto conviene far ritorno” by R. Simon, a British Art Journal. Honestly, I found searching for my resources extremely difficult because I simply I had to sift through several sources, finding reputable information related to my theme/artwork of choice.
