REFLECTION
Throughout my journey in Child and Youth Care, I have had the opportunity to learn and value many ways of Indigenous cultures. This is a reflection paper on one virtual event I attended while in CINT 922 named “Indspiring Change @ Home with Susan Aglukark” (Indspire, 2023). Throughout this paper I will focus on what the event entailed, some key points that were spoken about, and what I saw, heard and felt about this event. I will also speak about how this event impacted my thoughts, beliefs, attitudes, and values, as well as what I learned from this virtual event experience, all while relating to course content from CINT 922. Description of Event This event “Indspiring Change @ Home with Susan Aglukark” (Indspire, 2023), is part of an event series that is held by Indspire. During this event, the guest speaker is Susan Aglukark
and she is speaking alongside Mike DeGagné who is the President and CEO of Indspire. Indspire
is a national Indigenous charity that supports the education of First Nations, Métis and Inuit people within Canada, and this is to provide long term support benefits to individuals and their families as well as their communities. The vision of this charity and the event I attended is “enriching Canada through Indigenous education and by inspiring achievement” (Indspire, 2023). This event was recorded back in March of 2023; however, it is accessible on their website
as a virtual event series with Mike DeGagné speaking to multiple different Indigenous people from around the world. In this specific event Susan shares her lived experiences prior to where she is now as an Inuk artist. She shares that she is a musician, a community activist, a motivational speaker and an author. She speaks about the thoughts she has had about her success and her career and how at times she was a bit lost but in all, this journey has supported her in expressing herself and gaining a sense of self and healing throughout her journey. We learn that

REFLECTION
Susan is from Nunavut and identifies as an Inuk, she shares her passions, challenges, and much more about the community challenges in the North as well as the Indigenous youth. The event is a personal reflection on achievement and success while also reflecting on why and how she got to where she is and what she is doing to continue to support and educate others about Indigenous intergenerational trauma and how to move forward to create a world of change and acceptance. The event is around mental health and creating awareness for Indigenous mental health and healing. Sensory Experience/Personal Impact
Throughout this event, we hear Susan speak about her experiences as an artist, an activist,
and a motivator, as well as an author. We see the passion she has for her culture, and identity and
the resilience she has shown throughout her lifetime as she shares her experiences and thoughts. We hear about her “Arctic Rose Foundation” (Indspire, 2023) which is a charity that has a focus on supporting youth in the north through the use of art and creative projects. This foundation became a thing back in 2012 when is first kicked off and has continued to impact many Indigenous youth over the years. We also hear about her other project called the “Messy Book Program” (Inspire, 2023), which is related to art and its expressive through mixed media, beading, painting, and youth run the program after certain pieces of training called cultural cognizance. We see beautiful artwork of hers throughout the event as well. For example, at the very beginning of the video, she shares the articles that are behind her, one she had made for her from specific items which Indigenous peoples would recognize (brown in colour), and another that her
mother and her created from her great great great grandmothers’ pieces (multi-coloured). There
