EDU 284 Early Capstone Practicum Module 2- Transitions and Piggy Back Songs Reflective Journal Dena Bowden February 6, 2024
1. Swing like a chimpanzee (to the tune of Row Row Row Your Boat) Song goes as follows swing, swing, swing like a chimpanzee, up in the tree so high! Swing, s How do I swing, swing like a chimpanzee, reach for the sky! The purpose of this transition is to work with gross motor skills and reinforce vocabulary related to different animals. The animals do not necessarily have to be chimpanzees, they can be whatever animal the teacher picks, but I will be using chimpanzees. How the transition will be used. the children will sit in a circle and the teacher or I'll be singing a fun song about the chimpanzee in the tree this song encourages children to get the sillies out fun movements mimicking a champion swinging in a tree this is also an activity that can be done while seated so if you do have any children withstanding difficulties that could participate in this activity as well. 2. Five little apples (sung to the tune to the tune of five little monkeys swing in the tree) This is how the song is sung five little Apples in a tree, teasing Mr. squirrel, cannot catch me! Quotation marks along came Mr. squirrel, quiet as can be, and that apple dash now there are four. Now this transition will use felt or paper made apples on a felt board or a display board. The action will be five apples on the board, as the teacher says one apple is removed each time until there are no more apples. This will encourage the children to count aloud and also predict how many apples will be left this game also can be switched up with as many apples as the teacher desires again this is an activity that the child can stand and where the child can be seated you can also use this activity for helping children to line up and also go to different centers. 3. A calm down fashion show (this activity is not a singing activity a talking and encouragement transitional exercise for the children) have the children sit on the carpet now in my classroom we have a very large carpet that has colored blocks so in this case I will have the children sit on the colored blocks, but I will leave the yellow square open for the fashion show. The children are sitting in a semi- circle and I am sitting in front of them, I will then ask a child to stand on the yellow square that child I will ask questions such as what are you wearing today if they can't really express themselves I would ask open-ended questions such as you have on a beautiful shirt what color is your shirt at this point the child will respond back and the peers are also encouraged to respond to help the child if they do not know what color shirt they have on I will proceed down to pants shoes and if they have on any jewelry or beads after which they have named everything that they're wearing today and the colors I
