1 Samuel
Title
Book title comes from its author (Samuel).
Author
Many people credit Samuel with having written the book, although it can be certain that
he had at least two other people helping him—Nathan and Gad. Samuel was the son of Hannah (1 Samuel 1:19–20) who anointed both Saul and David as king over Israel (1 Samuel 9:27–10:1; 16:13).
Date
The events the book describes occurred at the end of the period of the judges (around 1350–1100 BC). This means that the book could have been written sometime between 1100–1000 BC, although this can't be firmly established.
Audience
The generations of people living prior to and immediately following the monarchy in Israel.
