QUESTION: First, read the Class Resources Statement on the Integration of Faith and Work and the CMHC Mission Statement found in the CMHC and SC Counselor in Training Handbook. Also, review the GCU's Christian Identity and Mission webpage and read the GCU Doctrinal Statement and GCU Mission located in the Topic 1 Resources.   After learning more about what GCU is all about, how do you think GCU’s Christian heritage makes the GCU academic experience different than at a non-faith-based university? What value will this difference add to your educational experience? Your response must be 150-200 words and include at least three citations and three references regarding the resources listed to support your response. Cite any references accordingly using in-text citations and a reference list in APA format. After reading all of GCU’s Mission Statements and Counselor handbook, I understand that a University that is faith based teaches an individual to grow from inside and out. An individual who is able to work toward “perfecting his or her professional communication skills, is cognizant of how communication impacts others intellectually, emotionally and spiritually,” ( Christian Identity and Mission). A faith based university helps an individual focus on themselves, teaches them about the Bible, and God. “The university embraces the traditional Christian conviction that education relates to the whole person — heart, soul, mind and body — and should assist individuals in finding and leading with purpose,” (Christian Identify and Mission). With the GCU statements and the word of God guiding my education, I can have peace of mind knowing that nothing is impossible. I chose my degree in Clinical Mental Health because I want to help people by effectively assessing, diagnosing, treating, and empowering culturally diverse populations ( College of Humanities and Social Sciences Clinical Mental Health Counseling & School Counseling) . This is this is the way someone helped me overcome many things in my life, and now I want to reciprocate. Christian Identity and Mission . Grand Canyon University. RESPONSE : I have to agree with you on GCU’s main focus is to find one’s purpose with the word of God. After reading the statements a few times, it makes one think of how powerful these words are. It gives me the willpower to keep going strong. Other Universities which I attended did not have this at all, it was more of go to class, complete your work, and here is your grade or points. Compare to GCU, which has assignments to remind an individual about their faith, just in case someone may or may not have needed to hear the word of God. Loving it.
