On pages 62-63 of chapter 6, your author discusses how music plays an important role in recording the history of many African tribes.
For our discussion this week, discuss why using music is both an appropriate and necessary tool for recording and passing on tribal histories. Also consider music from our culture that could possibly fulfill a similar function. As always, provide examples when you are able.

Within our text on pages 62 and 63, the author explains music's important role in recording the history of many African tribes. Music is a necessary tool for recording and passing on tribal histories because the history and the ancestors' memory have been engraved into their music and were compared to the blacksmiths of the same period, achieving a status of power as the artisans of weapons. The comparison was that of the blacksmith's achievement to the musicians becoming "artisans of the word." One song that came to mind when thinking about music that contains history was "Rasputin" by Money B.
