Week 4 Final
Question #1
As a preschool student, I want to learn more about my friends' cultures by asking questions and listening when they share stories. I will look at books and pictures that show different traditions, foods, and celebrations. Maybe we can have special days where each friend can share something about their family's customs or holidays. I will also try to learn some words in their languages, so we can talk and play together. It's important to be friends with everyone and understand that we might be different, but that makes us special and unique.
Question # 3
For years, there has been a widespread belief that religion cannot be taught in schools, but I consider this notion a misconception. It is crucial to incorporate the study of religions into the educational curriculum to enhance our understanding of diverse cultural backgrounds. When teaching about religion, it is imperative to clarify that the goal is not to encourage students to convert to a specific faith but rather to provide them with comprehensive information. As highlighted by Gollnick and Chinn (2016), educators, like their students, bring diverse religious backgrounds and values to the classroom. The focus should be on academically oriented teachings rather than devotional ones. Teachers should refrain from advocating for or against any
religion and instead present information for the purpose of fostering diversity and promoting a more nuanced comprehension of various belief systems.
Question #5 Chapter eight provided me with a wealth of information that significantly broadened my perspective. Coming from a family where Christianity was integral to our way of life, delving into the study of various religions was genuinely fascinating. The realization of the multitude of different belief systems was eye-opening, especially since my upbringing had primarily exposed me to Christianity, alongside awareness of the Catholic and Mormon Churches in the city. Exploring diverse religions through the chapter expanded my understanding, revealing connections between religion and issues such as race, schools, and sexual orientation. This exposure has made me more conscious of the importance of fostering an inclusive environment in my future classroom, where every child feels free to be themselves and embrace their individual beliefs.

In reviewing the videos, the ones that stood out as most significant to today's cultural concerns were those addressing diversity in the classroom, inclusion, and understanding various exceptionalities. These videos highlighted the importance of fostering an inclusive and culturally
sensitive learning environment, addressing contemporary challenges in education.
The assignment that proved most valuable to me was the personal interview. It provided a unique opportunity to connect with someone and gain insights into their experiences and perspectives. This assignment enhanced my understanding of diversity and allowed me to apply these insights to my teaching philosophy.
