Classroom Application Paper
Description of Artifact:
This artifact required that I closely examine community
resources, student/personal identity, and the site at which I teach in order to figure out
how I can apply the information to create a more culturally responsive classroom
environment.
How does the artifact demonstrate your ability (a) to develop culturally
inclusive learning environments in the classroom and school by drawing on
an in-depth knowledge of English learners’ home cultures and cultural
experiences and (b) to examine his/her own cultural beliefs, attitudes, and

This artifact demonstrates my ability to develop a culturally inclusive learning
environment, because I take the time throughout to highlight the demographics and
identities of my students. By acknowledging the diverse make-up of my students and
the community resources/funds of knowledge available to them, I discuss how I can
incorporate the at-home knowledge they bring to the classroom into the curriculum.
This artifact also exhibits my progress in examining my own cultural beliefs, attitudes,
and assumptions, as I spend time discussing my own personal identity and how I
believe my identity impacts or shapes who I am as a person/educator.
How does the artifact demonstrate your understanding of how such dispositions
can impact student learning and achievement?
This artifact displays my understanding of how these dispositions can impact student
learning and achievement, as I heavily discuss how my student’s identities play an
important role in shaping the way they view the educational institution, and therefore
impacting their overall educational achievement. I also analyze how my personal
identity impacts my students and the positive/negative effects I believe my identity can
have on the students in my class.
