VIDEO KILLED THE RADIO STAR BUT THE METAVERSE NERFED THEM ALL
OUTLINE
1
I.
Introduction
:
A. Thesis: The pop art movement found influence in the fourth wave of technological innovation, current events, and popular culture. It is important to understand what ways artists successfully exploited these influences to capture their audience. Artists in the illustration industry can adapt the historical lessons and successes of the pop art movement to
better integrate and leverage today’s audience attention based on parallels of modern popular culture, current events, and the sixth wave of technological innovation.
B.
Summary of the argument: During the period in which Pop Art sprung up, video was all the rave but one can now ask where is video today. This generation wants immersive interaction to connect with content and they find that in the metaverse. Video is just not able to provide that kind interaction with its unidirectional interface and this has translation across
all art media forms but its successes are still relevant. In industry an illustrator builds on concepts to expand the audience understanding through visual presentation of the idea. The illustrator best accomplishes this when am audience is captivated by their visual representation. In this regard, there is warrant for illustrators to find and adapt influences which are successful in capturing audiences. Pop Art is the best reference for illustrators to find successful influences out of all other art movements as it was the most effective in captivating its audience on multiple levels. The three key elements of Pop Art influence are technological innovation, current events, and popular culture.
1.
First main point:
Influence from technological innovation was the initial branch of Pop Art’s success because it expanded accessibility, created captivating nuance, and expanded relevance of reference material as well as perception of topics. Technology also
made it possible for other successful influences on Pop Art such as current events and popular culture. Technological innovation follows a constant trajectory and illustration

artist who harness these lessons of success are able to better reach audiences, captivate those audiences, and expand the relevance of topics explored by their art. 2.
Second main point:
Current Events spurred on by accessibility to all from technological innovation brought global issues to the attention of even the most rural locations. Suddenly, war and other hot topics such as civil rights were of interest to audiences because it was in their daily feed and warranted immediate opinion. As news media evolved with the technologic innovations there was further divisions of regional bias, driven narratives, and commonly explored tropes. The products of this evolution expanded the range of opinions and also influenced the third branch of success in Pop Art
by spurring on a shift in popular culture based on a new normality. Where current events such as war, politics, and the environment are prevalent illustrators of today and tomorrow can take influence from success in Pop Art to embrace opinions and mold the audience attention towards their targeted message. 3.
Third main point:
Popular Culture is the byproduct of technological innovation and the world around us as defined by popular perception of the events at that time. Pop Art success in this realm is based on the lifestyle change, wild opinions sowing division in society, and reference to media such as advertising and film. Pop Art was able to connect audiences with art personally by what they perceived to be their own identity or something that was forced on them as a societal construct identity that they did not accept. Popular culture is divided amongst political beliefs, accepted social norms, and one’s lifestyle. Today’s illustrators can not only analyze these interactions in their work to make successful connection with their audience but also avoid alienation of an audience through generating neutrality in their work.
