2 nd Punic War Hannibal Crosses the Alps Tum P. Cornelius Scipio cum exercitu in Hispaniam missus est, Ti. Sempronius in Siciliam. Bellum Carthaginiensibus indictum est . Fratre, Hasdrubale, relicto in Hispania, Hannibal transiit Pyrenaeum et Alpes, adhuc invias . Traxit ad Italiam LXXX milia peditum , X milia equitum , et septem et XXX elephantos. Interea multi Ligures et Galli Hannibali se coniunxerunt . Then P. Cornelius Scipio was sent with his army into Spain; Sempronius into Sicily. War was declared against the Carthaginians. After leaving his brother Hasdrubal in Spain, Hannibal crossed the Pyrenees and the Alps, which were still impassable. He dragged to Italy eighty thousand foot soldiers, ten thousand Calvary, and thirty seventy elephants. In the mean time many Ligurians and Gauls joined themselves to Hannibal.
