Geospatial Lab Application 3.1: Name: _________________________________ Georeferencing an Image Question 3.1 : Just based on visual examination of the two maps, what types of transformative operations do you think will have to be performed to the unreferenced map to make it match the source map? You would have to make sure the buildings are scaled correctly in order to make them the right size for the map. Question 3.2: Why is this a good location for a control point? Because it is an intersection between 2 highly traveled roads on campus. Question 3.3: Which locations did you choose for the next two control points, and why? I chose Stambaugh Stadium and McDonough Museum because they were bigger buildings that stood out and were significant to the community. Question 3.4: Why would you want to spread the control point selection across the image instead of clustering the points together? If they were too close together, they might be mistaken for the other or look too similar. Question 3.5: Which location did you choose for the fourth control point, and why? I chose Ward Beecher Hall because it was near the center of the other two control points without being too close to either of them. Question 3.6: Which point has the highest error value, and what is that error value? The McDonough Museum has the largest error value at 12.2. Question 3.7: Which locations did you choose for the final three control points, and why?
Watson and Tressel Training Center, Andrew recreations and wellness center and the University Courtyard Apartments. I chose these places because they seemed like places I would visit on campus frequently. Question 3.8: What are the final error values for each of your seven control points? Andrew recreations and wellness center: 0 Watson and Tressel Training Center: 3.7 University Courtyard Apartments: 0 McDonough Museum: 12.2 Ward Beecher Hall: 4.63 Stambaugh Stadium: .23 Wick and Lincoln: 0 Question 3.9: How does the map match up with the roads leading into and out of campus? Are there any locations where the roads don’t match? How does the interior of campus match up? I think the maps exiting roads line up pretty perfectly for the most part. There are a couple on the bottom that are out of line, but other than that they seem to be correct. Question 3.10: How does the interior of campus match up in terms of the roads and campus areas? I think the interior roads also line up pretty well. There are some small ones that seem out of place, but for the most part, they connect to the outer roads well.
