Gabriel is a student who moved to the US with his family. They live in an urban
community with its own Ecuadorian micro-community. Gabriel loves music and
plays the marimba and the bandolin. He is looking forward to participating in the
cultural music clubs. He also loves soccer and playing card games.
LRE:
The least restrictive environment for Gabriel would be the general education
classroom with the appropriate accommodations and supports. He would spend
some time outside of the classroom with other ELL students.
Where we’re at:
Academic Summary:
Strengths
: Gabriel has basic communication skills sufficient for him to
communicate some needs related to daily activities. He is eager to learn. He has a
good foundation in reading and math.
Needs
: Gabriel needs work on his vocabulary related to academics. He could
also use some extra work in science.
Strategies the student may use: Gabriel will use his iPad and Google Translate
for help in communicating. Gabriel will continue to meet with other ELL students 3
times a week.
Strategies the teacher may use: Provide labels around the room with the
English & Spanish word. Provide Gabriel with translation tools.
Social/Behavioral Summary:
Gabriel has developed strong friendships in his
community. Most of his friends are also Ecuadorian immigrants. He is going to help
his uncle give music lessons and hopes to meet kids his age.
