Video Presentation
The article I chose to expand on was the
"From Monster to Martyr: Re-Presenting Mary
Dyer."
The short video presentation is on the monster births of Anne Hutchinson and Mary Dyer
and how the Puritan leadership used the births to discredit the women and their beliefs. In the
video I will explain how the births were demonized and how they were used in the community to
control people in an attempt to crush dissenting views. I will also explain how the “monster
births” were in fact birth defects that happen to women today. This use of a woman’s body as a
manifestation of sin would not be the last time the Puritans used physical deformities to accuse
people of sin.
