CRITICAL ANALYSIS Reimagine Southern New Hampshire University IDS 402
1 Critical Analysis: Reimagine This paper will allow us to examine Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) through the humanities lens. We have come a long way by making great strides since the Dark Ages (University of Helsinki, 2018). The average person lives much longer, in less poverty, and is healthier than before us. According to Our World in Data, people of today are more literate and have more access to powerful technology. The truth is none of this would have been possible without studying the humanities. While science is often accredited with the creation of penicillin, the internet, and other technological advances, dismissing the humanities would be a travesty. Humanities has helped us to overcome our demons both individually and collectively. The humanities have had some great accomplishments such as great film students and the European Union's formation (Helsinki, 2018). Take Russian studies, for example, this could be taught by focusing only on the nation. Taking another route and studying the nation by focusing on several of its dimensions allows us to gain a global perspective of the nation. Instead of studying Russia as an isolated country apart from the rest of the world, the students at Helsinki University can study the nation as an important part of the challenges we face in the world. Studying different unities outside of your familiarity challenges you to think differently and allows you to understand the world in different ways, thus allowing you to possess skills that are rare in today's world. This is important for personal growth and advancement within your career.
2 Factors that Impact DE&I Racism: "The year 2020 brought us a global pandemic, racial tensions at a high that hasn't been witnessed in quite a while (in the United States that is) due to the deaths of Breonna Taylor and George Floyd, attacks on Asian Americans, and the rise of white supremacist groups" (Maddocks, 2021). These events have reminded us that we are still struggling with civil rights and understanding how complex that struggle is. Research held by UNH faculty has proven that religious and political doctrines dating back to 17th century England still have an influence on beliefs that are related to race and religion of today (Maddocks, 2021). "Connections are still being made between race, Christianity, and post-reformation England's influence on African American political activism (Maddocks, 2021)." As an example, some people believe that Obama was Muslim and that he has the same religious beliefs as his Black, African, Muslim father. Even today people's religious affiliation can be seen as being inherited the way racial features such as hair, skin, and eye color are. Assumptions: Including people of different races, sexes, beliefs, and so forth are important components when retaining a group of diverse workers, students, and communities. In today's working society we hear a lot of hype around the phrase "bring your whole self to work" (Madana, 2019). It is the company's responsibility to create space that will allow its employees to communicate with each other without feeling threatened. Doing so will allow its employees to be included. This can also help create a more inclusive workplace. It is believed that women are leaving the workforce due to preconceived ideas of motherhood, and starting a family is the
