In the article “Youth Serial Killers: Psychological and Criminological Profile,” author
Maria
García-Baamonde writes about people becoming killers at a young age and the alarming
implications their actions have on their generation. Garcia-Baamonde discusses the nature vs
nurture argument in this article and discusses the upbringings of young killers and/or serial
killers. Their upbringings are then compared to each other as well as to their non-murderous
peers to look for links that may connect the killers. The article then dives deeper into the nature
vs nurture debate.
This article is a scholarly reference for a few reasons. First, the author, Garcia Baamonde,
is a professor at the University of Extremadura in Spain with a Doctorate in Psychology. Second,
the article is filled with data from numerous studies that are all cited and easily findable. Third,
there are peer reviewers that checked the article and certified it.
This article is applicable to my research since the topic I chose is the nature vs nurture
debate; are killers born or made? This study has both statistics and other information on young
killers but also has a lot of talk about the nature vs nurture debate.
