Module 6: Short Answer
Describe the two lenses you have selected for your analysis:
For my analysis, I chose to use the lenses of History and Social Sciences to properly
understand my topic on Justice. I went with these two lenses because they are the most relevant
to my subject and will give me the best understanding of how the justice system works and how
we have gotten to where we are today. The History lens shows us how our justice system
developed, and the steps taken to get us to where we are today. Utilizing the History lens isn’t
just a way to study a specific topic but also to analyze and interpret the past by utilizing our
sources, perspectives, and methods (Kronzek 2022). The Social science lens, this lens shows us
how humans act in their social environments (Gracia, J.D. P. D, 2023). Even though I could have
gone in a different direction, with the lenses I have chosen, I felt I could gather the most in-depth
information by utilizing the History and Social Sciences lenses.
Compare the two lenses in relation to your topic. What are the similarities:
The similarities between History and Social science are how they revolve around the
people within the society, how they act, their interactions, prejudices, and the past and present.
Both lenses study human interactions and humans in general; they also take a glimpse into the
past to understand social connections better (Digital, 2023). The binding agent to the social
science and history lens is how they use qualitative and quantitative methods for research
(Ogunniyi et al., 2014). These two lenses can teach us about the Justice system we have today.
Explain how the two lenses contrast with each other in relation to your topic. What are the
differences:
Both History and Social sciences study the facts about past events. However, to better
understand many unanswered questions about why things in history occurred, utilizing the social
science lens helps us fill in the blanks (Difference Between, 2017). When it comes to insight into
behavior, many turn to social science, which means that history can absorb the most valuable
scientific option.
Reflect on the benefits of the research process. Consider the following:
During my research of Justice, I have obtained a multitude of information just by
utilizing the History and Social Science lenses. I now understand human rights, diversity,
participation, and even equity from my research. The most significant breakthrough in opening
my eyes to the justice system is gathering information on previous events and how they
unfolded. With more research, I will compile a broader understanding of my topic by utilizing
these two lenses.
