Issues of the Home
As America pushes for a more progressive stance on family and marriage, the sanctity of these unions begins to dissolve and contribute to the creation of self-destructive principalities. The three most notable of these factors are cohabitation, divorce, and fatherless homes. In a primarily secular culture, little to nothing is being done to address the rising number of these afflictions. Thankfully, Jesus understood that humanity would fail to recognize the severity of their actions since they see reality through physical eyes alone (Buckley and Dobson, 2010). The
Bible, therefore, provides guidance and clarity on these matters.
1 Corinthians 7:2 directly rebukes the practice of cohabitation, “Nevertheless,
to avoid
fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband”
(1 Corinthians 7:2, KJV, 1769/2023). This synthetic union contributes to the procreation of sexual immorality bringing about a familial system void of any absolute responsibility. The Bible
is warning that in the absence of marriage any attempt at assured commitment is dissolved. To put it simply, nothing is stopping any one party from abandoning their partner. Divorce is the most adverse event on a child’s life (Auersperg et al, 2019). God designed families to be everlasting unions with morality being bestowed upon children through the example of their parents. Due to inheriting the curse of sin, mankind has warped these ideals into
opinionated possibilities instead of direct obligations. God never intended for marriages to die so
easily and even outlined this truth in Matthew 5:32, “But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery” (Matthew 5:32, KJV, 1769/2023). Divorce in the eyes of God is a sin except in the event that said partner is sexual promiscuous.
