During the pandemic, many college departments have seen a decrease in revenue, and
many departments and people in college sports have lost the focus of NIL. While the topic of playing the players has been highly debated of late the pandemic has shown that the issue has slowed down and there are subtle things that have triggered discussions like the firing of Archie Miller and his buyout (10 million.) College Athletics departments, the NCAA and its athletes want to find common ground, but the action seems to be going nowhere at the moment. The case of NIL is currently at the Supreme
Court and many are waiting to see what will happen. The ruling will be huge
Outline

Pandemic has helped spurred NIL. (Reverse of what I thought)

Lead quote: “Players made it known that they are not NCAA property during the pandemic”. - Peter
DETAIL #1
: Many players want to profit off their name
As many times as Michael Penix game winning diving touchdown against Penn State was
shown he has made no money off it. What happens if he ends up not making the NFL and
not getting a degree if he comes out of college early. How does he support his family? Name Image Likeness will allow players to profit off their name. Sign’s sponsorships will local businesses Could be a win win. A negative impact would be that it could be more like players going to schools where they are paid the most money. Imagine how many small schools would be affected
DETAIL #2
– NCAA still argues that it will create a pay to play
Athletes are technically receiving money from their sponsorships. What happens for most of the players who do not end up making a career in sports?
Why should we care?
Timeless: Quote. B-town, Penix. Change is happening now
What happens with sports that do not make a lot of money. Soccer, baseball, track and field, etc.?
Why it’s a problem? How has the pandemic affected it?
Ending: Case Currently Sits on the Supreme Court. Bi Partisan support. Florida State Seminoles are helping their players know about NIL and how to profit off of their image. https://www.espn.com/college-
