Event Plan: Incorporating Equity and Respect
Equity and respect provide a framework for educators and academic administrators that guide training and delivery of instruction and programming. Family engagement is supposed to foster communication with parents about student performance and collaboratively support learning; equitable family engagement describes conditions where all types of families are positively involved in their children's education. Equity in the classroom means ensuring every student has the resources and support they need to succeed. Every year, we host a culture fair.
We look forward to this event every year because it offers students, teachers, and families
an opportunity to encounter one another in celebration of what we all bring to the table.

Equity
Some people may refer to equity as "leveling the playing field." Equity enables students to reach their fullest potential regardless of income, race, gender, disability, language, or other variables. It is an opportunity to be unified by pride in our children and celebrate all the richness and benefits we get from such a diverse community.
Respect
Respect is a high or particular regard for someone (Merriam-Webster, 2016). In education, respect is often defined as demonstrating appreciative feelings for an individual or group (Cohen et al., 2011). Within the context of family–professional partnerships, respect refers
to the actions that families and professionals take in treating one another with esteem via their words and actions (Blue-Banning et al., 2004).
Support Structures
The school develops structures that support this event, including community meetings, advisory, Fairness Committees, student governance, student-centered, culturally responsive curriculum, school norms, and safety language. Students will learn about their culture through research. Families would have to help with this. Event Plan: Part 2
Collaboration Activity
Upon arrival at the school on Culture Night, students receive a passport that they can complete and turn in for a prize drawing. They earn a stamp for completing an activity in each region. This passport activity encourages everyone to try new things and circulate through all the
regional displays. They will also vote for their favorite display, food, and performance.
