Celebrating Our World
Dear Parents and Community Leaders,
Hello and my name is Jasmine Kight and I teach Kindergarten within Alice Drive Elementary school. In my classroom, I want to make sure that I have a diverse and cultural background for all my students. We have been studying and learning about different countries all
over the world, how people speak different languages, the utensils that they use to eat food may be different from the way we eat, their food, music, the way they celebrate holidays, the way they dress, etc. With that being said, we know people are different even within our community. The other teachers and I here at the school would like to start an Around the World community project. In order to make this successful, we are going to need the help from our amazing community. At the event if you have a different culture and would like to set up a booth to display so students can see, please do so. We want our students to be able to see the diverse backgrounds and different cultures around the world with their own eyes because as we know everyone is unique and special. There are so many books that we have read within our classroom
about how people come from different cultures and that even though they have come from different cultures we have similarities, too. In our world, our diversity makes us stronger and even if some are different, we are all beautiful and unique. We want our students to be able to thrive within their education and learn hands-on different cultures around the world.
Different examples that can be placed within your booth that would help engage students could be different foods for them to taste test for something that could be traditional within your culture. Another example would be different read aloud that engages and pull the students into

the book to learn more about the culture. Finally, the last example would be the different clothing
that was worn during that time, if allowed, having students have pretend play is a great way for students to be engaged, any music from your culture for the students to hear and of course anything with a beat they are going to dance to. To make this event even more exciting, we have thrown together like a “Around the World” hunt to where the students must go around looking for clues to fill in the answers on their paper. This will give our young learners the opportunity to
explore and connect with the world through personal experiences from you. With that being said,
the generosity of our community members and leaders who have graciously donated prizes for our sweet students who finish, turn in their paper with all answers correct will be entered into a drawing for a prize. Without you, this event could not be possible or even successful. "It takes a village to raise a child is a proverb that means that an entire community of people must provide for and interact positively with children for those children to experience and grow in a safe and healthy environment” (Wikipedia Contributors, 2023). Words cannot describe my appreciation for each and every one of you. Respectfully,
Jasmine Kight
