EE-TAOW CASE STUDY: Parts 1 & 2 Name: Aarin Marlow CQ DRIVE: Based on what you hear and see in the video, describe Mark & Gloria’s CQ Drive. What motivates them? Is it high or low? Consider examples of the 3 sub-dimensions: intrinsic, extrinsic, and self-efficacy. Mark and Gloria were motivated by wanting to be active in spread God and Gods word to the unreached unevangelized people groups. CQ KNOWLEDGE: Consider the sub-dimensions of CQ knowledge: business/cultural systems, value orientations, leadership, socio-linguistics. Identify 3 important systems and 5 important cultural value orientations of the Mouk people and how understanding each one would impact that way Gods Story could be shared. (NOTE: Remember that CQ value orientations are different from cultural systems). Business/Cultural Systems: 1. Kinship Family System 2. Mystic Religious System 3. Socialism Economic System Cultural Value Orientations: 1. Collectivism 2. Indirect 3. Being 4. High Power Distance 5. Expressive We started off the class with the story of God. Let’s evaluate how Ethnos 360 uses CQ in order to contextualize sharing the story of God with the Mouk people. As you watch the videos, observe and reflect on the values of the Mouk people and how Mark & Gloria Zook strategize to use those values in sharing the story of God.
What do you observe/learn about Socio-Linguistics or Leadership that impacts the way Mark and Gloria communicate in this context? Mark took time to fully comprehend how and what techniques he wanted to use to share to the Mouk people. It was important to him and he even got a translator to help him so that the sermons would be fully comprehended. Mark preached the gospel throughout multiple days before introducing Christs story to be able to fully depict the word of God. What does EE-TAOW mean? EE-TAOW means “it’s true, it’s good, it’s very true.” Which worldview do you think the Mouk people fall under? What do you observe in the culture that reflects the worldview you identified? Guilt/Innocence, Fear/Power, OR Honor/Shame The Mouk people definitely fall into the fear/power worldview. The Mouk people had a belief of the mask within the people signifying the spirit of the dead ancestors, the death of a women if she found out it was a man not a spirit. The women were in unequal and deceptive playing fields when it came to power and relationships with the men. CQ STRATEGY AND ACTION: For 5 of the systems or value orientations listed above, identify how Mark and Gloria addressed this in their gospel presentation. This can be a specific example from how they shared God’s story or a way that they changed their communication or lifestyle to live in Papua New Guinea. 1. Planning: Mark planned his sermons and times to translate so the community would understand. 2. The teachers (Mark and later some Mouks) used visuals to help explain the biblical stories to be able to feel the power of each “act”. 3. There was a heavy teaching on hope in Christ and eternal Heaven after Christ, whereas their beliefs had no hope in death. 4. The acting out of each “act” of the bible, even the crucifixion allowed the feelings of heavy heart and being able to feel the Lords spirit. Exemplifying the redemption from their sin in new life. 5. There was awareness of the fear/power worldview and asked questions relating that aspect.
