Discussion Post # 1: Health Care Center for the Homeless: Changing with the Times case study: How can Health Care Center for the Homeless (HCCH) anchor the achievements of change in the culture? Bakari Burns fresh out college was appointed the Chief Executive Officer of the Health Care Center for the homeless. Zealous, energetic and ready His objective was to integrate new state-of-the-art concepts to improve the presence conditions. Though successful Burns missed key components and insights for unremitting success. to anchor the achievements of change in the culture. Stakeholder must clearly see the vision Stakeholders were confused and had misperceptions about implementing things not clearly defined. People just do not adapt to change well when accustomed. To this is the way it has always been. The desired change in scope of services will be a large undertaking not only in terms of expanding the services offerings to the community but more importantly in terms of winning the support of the internal and external stakeholders. To ensure the change becomes embedded in the culture the support of stakeholders is key because this is how the new brand image, the new services offered, and the manner in which the institution is perceived will be internalized (Dato- on, M.C, et al, 2011). After the changes have been made constant and frequent communication will be necessary to ensure the changes become embedded in the organization’s norms and behaviors. The visibility of the CEO living the new changes, and verbally communicating the new changes, will be another very important aspect to ensure the changes become part of the culture (Kotter, 2012).
Burns was an extraordinary individual. He took the time to take a population of people who are less thought of by society. One of his primary objectives was to first establish trust and relationships to discover the needs of this culture. As a means to provide the appropriate services. Networking was the key component to his success to incorporate individuals who had the same ambitions. But probably did not have the right resources or connections. Because of his endeavoring efforts he was able to turn this culture. What many do not know is homeless individuals once had careers and families, but misfortune made them fall into hardship. The Health Care Center for the Homeless Several successful changes have been implemented at the Health Care Center for the Homeless (HCCH), which included offering the highest quality care to their customers, being responsive to the changing needs of the community, using the state-of-the-art electronic system that ensured the integration of communication with area healthcare providers resulting in continuity of care eliminating duplication of service. Their Homeless Outreach Partnership Effort (HOPE) team successfully integrated the homeless into the community. The Patient Assistant Program Coordinator's introduction helped the homeless get low-cost or free prescriptions soon after receiving care.   Burns and his team need to link these achievements to the values of HCCH and develop a new vision.     The new vision and values need to be communicated and embraced by staff at all levels so that they become shared values and a shared vision. This can be achieved through staff meetings, brainstorming sessions, surveys, and focus group discussions to get all staff involved and engaged in the changes. Staff involvement in meetings and brainstorming sessions would encourage them to take ownership of the changes and sustain them. Having a vision is essential for the team to have a rallying and unifying theme.
