Learning Journal Unit 8 Making reference to resources listed in the Reading Assignments throughout the course, please address the following: Using all that you have learned in this course, explain how the study of Art History can help someone better understand different cultures. Please include an example of how your own understanding of a different culture changed. Human nature has a tend to stereotype various things, including ethnicity, culture, and background. Roman art and architecture, for instance, are often thought of as grand in terms of art history and culture. Their temples were built with features like columns and vaulted ceilings, and their sculptures of the gods incorporated realism. People in the modern era simply assumed that this form of art started with the Romans because of the Roman empire's enormous influence, although the Romans really acquired many of the artistic and architectural components from the Greeks. Drawing on this principle, we can observe that many art genres appear to be influenced by earlier generations of artists, who used elements from works that spoke to them to express their own ideas and opinions about the world. The usage of art, architecture, and other forms of expression is a common language among people, despite the linguistic barrier that exists between many cultures and countries. The study of art history enables us to comprehend the many forms of art produced by other cultures as well as how each society interprets its own ideology and surroundings. It helps us understand how the human mind has evolved over time in response to external factors. The study of art history, particularly over a long period of time, aids in putting culture into perspective since it enables us to understand the origins of many communities and cultures as well as the sources of human thought. Art serves to explain why individuals hold certain ideologies and viewpoints, as well as their moral standards, notions of what is appropriate, etc. in addition to displaying the opinions and ideas of many people, cultures, and societies. In essence, it shows the breadth of the human intellect and how we communicate with one another through an abstract medium like art. References: Art history .
