Destiny Quattlebaum 7/4/23 HUM 100 Module Two Project "Starry Night" is the piece of culture I have selected. This starry painting by Van Gogh, one of his most well-known art pieces, was produced in 1889. It was revealed that the picture was a perfect expression of Van Gogh’s mental health. He painted this work symbolizing his connection to nature and his interest in the stars as well. The vibrant blues he used previously during the hard times of his life was one of his expressions. Then again, Van Gogh was fascinated by the night sky believing death was a way to travel to the stars. However, making the swirling brushstrokes, the bright yellow and white circular stars focused on the artist's feelings which were a few elements that stood out in his work. It was quite successful in a sense. Cultural work is defined as an imaginative or creative language that includes poetry, music, film, sculpture, and many other forms. To know and respect the artist's works in others. For unfamiliar culture work, I am going to choose “Girl with a Pearl Earring”. It was created by Johannes Vermeer, and it's one of his most well-known works. This painting portrays a girl with a pearl earring while her innocent and pure demeanor is reflected in both her expression. It was expressed that the painting represents status and wealth. Looking through the lens of humanities the use of a humanities perspective increases my comprehension of diverse cultural works and their motivations as it enables me to dig into various cultures, and gain knowledge. Therefore, the more I engage with artistic expressions from other communities, it allows me to empathize with and comprehend their unique experiences a bit better, Cultural works are the reason for their creations, and with this
knowledge, I can continue to learn more about cultural works.
