Journal Submission Week 11 – Ethan Cornelius Christ's Postmortal Ministry, Prompt #1: Record your answers to the following questions in your journal. Include specific examples to back up your conclusions (3–4 sentences): 1. Why did Christ cause the destruction of these cities and their inhabitants? Who perished, and who survived? What are His purposes for all this devastation? Because of the people's wrongdoing, Christ brought about their downfall. Those who practiced wickedness were the ones who perished, while the upright were the ones who lived. Christ is destroying things in order to gather His people back into His fold. 2. How does Christ describe His own perspective on what has happened? How does He feel about all this death and destruction? The Lord could not see these same people destroy the prophets and His gospel, but He also did not take pleasure in seeing His people destroyed—after all, they are the exact ones He died for. Christ's Post-Mortal Ministry, Prompt #2: Answer the following questions in your study journal. (3–4 sentences) 1. How does this comparison of Christ to a woman expand your understanding of his nature? 2. What does the comparison to a persistent mother tell you about Christ? Christ's analogy of Himself to a mother is astonishing, yet in my opinion, it makes sense. Mothers have such enormous love and desperation for their children—they would even sacrifice their lives for them. That's exactly what the Savior did; mothers are persistent in seeking the best for their children, and the Savior strives to bring us to the utmost happiness in all that He does. Christ's Postmortal Ministry, Prompt #3: After watching the video above, think about the following: What do Jesus's body and His physical actions communicate to the people? What does His power to heal teach them (and you) about Himself? Record your thoughts in your journal (3–4 sentences). Personally, from the video, something that stands out to me is Christ showing that even though He is supreme. He also understands each of us, He struggled and suffered just as we do. His power to heal, however, teaches them that despite the experiences they may have, He can heal them just as He is healed. Christ's Postmortal Ministry, Prompt #4: As you read, note in your journal everything that this account teaches about the resurrected Christ’s feelings or emotions. After you have read and made some notes, compare your answers with my thoughts below—you may notice different things, which is perfectly fine! (3–4 sentences)
Because everyone is significant and equal to the Lord, one of the first things I noticed was that He never forgets anyone. Moreover, He ensured that He set aside time to visit, bless, and console the people. He prayed for the people's welfare, just as he had done previously. Christ's Postmortal Ministry, Prompt #5: After you watch the video with Elder Andersen, write a response in your journal. What stood out to you in his words? How have you seen the healing power of Christ evident in your life and in the lives of others? What questions about healing do you still have, and how can you find answers to your questions? (3–4 sentences) The healing power that Christ possessed throughout His earthly ministry is not the same. We are not able to pursue the goal of touching the hem of His garment. I was intrigued by the different ways that people now seek healing. I can speak from experience when I say that waiting for relief from our pain and intercession can be really challenging. Still, I've always been curious in how to put Jesus Christ's atonement into practice, and I've found that persistent prayer and faith have made this easier for me. Christ's Postmortal Ministry, Prompt #6: As you read 3 Nephi 19:15–36, look for principles of prayer that you can learn both from observing Jesus’s prayers and from what Jesus tells the Lehites about prayer. Write down some ideas in your journal. Are there any principles of prayer taught here in 3 Nephi 19 that you could use to make your own prayers more powerful, meaningful, or holy? Write down at least one goal that you can apply in your prayers (3–4 sentences). Everyone can say that there always seems to be things to get done and that life is stressful. There's always something that needs our attention, be it work, school, family, travel, or something else entirely. When we pray, we may always find peace and quiet. I think the most important thing to take up from this verse is the respect the Lord showed when He chose a private place to pray. I think that making time to pray alone, without interruptions, can improve our relationship with the Father. Christ's Postmortal Ministry, Prompt #7: In your journal, answer the following: What does it mean to you to be part of a “covenant people”? What responsibilities does that place upon you in your own situation? (3–4 sentences) I usually tell everyone in my circle about a new restaurant I appreciate trying so they can all have the same experience. As a member of the covenant people, I firmly believe that the gospel is genuine and that it has greatly improved my life. I consider myself fortunate to have this knowledge and the joy that it brings. The most straightforward duty this gives me, in my opinion, is to live as a covenant person and impart this information to everyone in my immediate vicinity. Prompt from the webinar: My favorite story about the Savior is when the young Savior was in the temple and was ministering to the people there. I love this story because even at a young age, the savior recognized his role on earth to serve and minister to the children of earth and was not imitated by the
