Hello everyone,
My name is Shytia Goodson, and I am currently a Case/Care Manager for
children with intellectual disabilities. I graduated from Florence-Darlington
Technical College with my Associate of Applied Science Degree in Human
Services in 2015, Coker University with my Bachelor of Science Degree in
Psychology in 2018 and I have also graduated from Walden University with
my Master of Science Degree in Applied Psychology in 2021. I have been in
the mental/behavioral health field for some time now and I have worked with
a range of different ages (2-75 years of age). I have always been fascinated
with behavior and how the development of an individual affects their
behavior.
Although I am torn between two careers, a youth development specialist and
a behavioral consultant/analyst, I also would love to teach the upcoming
generation by becoming a college professor. Hopefully, while I continue my
studies here at Walden University, I will be able to decide on which career
path I would like to take. I want to gain all the knowledge I can so that I can,
not only better serve the children of the future, but also help the generation
before me better understand life and help them work through making
decisions that they may question.
Scholarly writing is different to everyone one. The definition can change due
to how people look at it or choose to explain it. As for me, I feel as though
scholarly writing is solely academic writing where all information, sources,
and citations are from other academic journals or encyclopedias. Thinking of
myself as a scholar, I do feel that I am very confident in doing the research
and presenting the information. I feel like I could improve in the ability to
transfer my thoughts to paper where it flows but still sound authentic. When
I say authentic, I mean not using big drawn out words that you have to pick
up a dictionary to figure out what it means just because I want to “seem” as
though I know all of these words to get my point across.
Thinking of yourself as a scholar, what is one area you feel
confident in? What is a skill you would like to improve?
