Hi Everyone,
One problem in my community that I have experienced myself that need’s our
immediate action to resolve is individual’s being bullied by their peers. Bullying in
schools is a widespread problem all over the world however, it is particularly
prevalent in my community. As a result of the severity of bullying, we have
recently seen a string of suicide attempts among students.
I'm going to be writing
about the bullying issue in my city school system and what we can do to help. The
main people affected by this are the students, the school's staff, parents, and even
the city's taxpayers.
People experiencing bullying are the most directly affected, facing challenges
related to depression, anxiety, sadness, loneliness, and the loss of interest in
activities they used to enjoy.
The best way to make a difference in this area would
be for the school administrators/faculty, parents, and students themselves to
come forward, finding common ground. Holding the bullies accountable by
removing them from school grounds and not allowing them to come back can
resolve the situation. The school system has had a lot of challenges, like not
having enough funding and not being well-equipped/undertrained in bullying
prevention. Both things go together, so more funding could help the school
systems get better training or even help them lower their staff-to-student ratio.
Thesis Statement:
Las Vegas city school system administrators can help stop
bullying by giving their staff better anti-bullying training, more money to hire extra
staff to reduce the student-to-staff ratio, and keeping the community involved
with student lead groups.
The reading of Unit 3 on the topic of how to compose a thesis statement proved
to be very beneficial. I was able to relate to the section in which it is mentioned
that students often experience difficulties when composing their thesis. It is
gratifying to know that I am not alone in feeling that one's thesis may evolve as
they progress through the process of researching the subject and composing their
initial draft.

Question:
Do you feel my thesis statement is effective, is there anything I can
add? Have you ever experience bullying before? If so, did you speak up and tell
anyone? How did that situation turn out?
