Liberal Arts has 4 Lenses:
1.
Social Sciences
2.
History
3.
Natural Sciences
4.
Humanities
These 4 Lenses help us to critically think and help us discover new ideas and gain
knowledge to allow us to be able to ask questions correctly to get the best possible
answers to those questions. The 4 Lenses are described in more depth and are as follows:
SOCIAL SCIENCE LENS
– studies relationships between society and people and by
observing humans in their social surroundings. To be able to understand how
relationships between humans and how they live their lives. Social Science involves
cultural life, human behaviors, and how societies work. Social Scientists use the scientific
method to study relationships and human lives.
HISTORY LENS
– is what helps us view how life once was in the past. History Lens
consists of artifacts, photos, letters, and interviews from different eras. History focuses on
why events happened in the past the way they happened and the results that occurred.
Studying History can help us learn from past mistakes to help improve our future and not
make the same mistakes, so it does not repeat itself.
NATURAL SCIENCE LENS
– Hypotheses are made and tested to get evidence about
how the universe works as well as how the physical world operates. Evidence is
conducted for natural sciences by using research and experiments by experts in the field.
The Natural Science Lens covers many subjects such as geology, mathematics, physics,
and chemistry. Having scientific literacy is having knowledge and a core understanding
of scientific concepts.
HUMANITIES
– is the study of human actions, how we as human beings work, and
what we can tell about our cultures. The Humanities Lens uses a wide variety of
documents as evidence such as diaries, letters, journals, literature, and music.
Professionals in the Humanities often ask questions about how our daily lives are
influenced and they investigate our human society and the cultural aspects the work
represents.
TYPES OF EVIDENCE
SOCIAL SCIENCE – uses the scientific method, surveys, and statistics, as well as
conducting interviews with informants for evidence purposes.
