The Wrong Answer and What Makes It Wrong and The Correct Answer
This essay is on test #1 and the questions I got wrong and the correct answer. Question #2. The cells of a mature cartilage are? I chose b. osteocytes the but correct answer was Chondrocytes. “Osteocytes are mature osteoblasts that have become trapped within the very bone matrix they produced. Osteocytes continue to form bone to some degree, which is important for maintaining the strength and health of the bone matrix.” () H. Muir wrote “Chondrocytes are specialized cells which produce and maintain the extracellular matrix of cartilage, a tissue that is resilient and pliant.” I saw the word mature and checked the wrong answer.
Question #4. The brain and the spinal cord are located in the? I answered, “the vertebral cavity.” Which was the wrong answer the spinal cord and the brain are located in the dorsal cavity. I read in the Pearson’s that the vertebral cavity houses the vertebrae and spinal cords and that the skull houses the cranial cavity. The dorsal or posterior cavity contains them both. I have to pay attention to details and I would have gotten this one right.
Question #5 Cytoplasm is the term for? I answered the fluid portion of the cell, but the correct answer was cytosol plus cell organelles. In the textbook,” Exploring Anatomy and Physiology” I read that “the cytoplasm is the material inside the cell, and it consisted of three parts: cytosol, the cytoskeleton, and organelles. My answer was wrong because I did not read the question correctly.
Question #7 Endocytosis is an example of? My answer was active transport which was the wrong answer the correct answer is simple diffusion. Simple diffusion is the movement from a high solute to a low concentration. (pg 71) Active transport on the other hand is the total opposite,
the movement of ions or molecules across a cell membrane into a region of higher concentration, assisted by enzymes and requiring energy. Question # 10 Facilitated diffusion requires a membrane carrier and cellular energy. True or false
I chose True which was the wrong answer. Hindsight is always 20/ 20 if I remember correctly facilitated diffusion does not use energy.
Gibson 2
Question #13 The atoms of the isotopes of a particular element varies in the number of? Neutrons should have been my answer but I chose electron I s remember seeing this on the slide but I was unsure of my answer I found it on slide number 11 in lectures.
Question #19 A hypotonic environment will cause the following condition: water cells will move
into the cell along a concentration gradient. I chose d. water molecules will move out of the cell against the gradient, which is the complete opposite.
Question # 22 the condition in which the body’s internal environment stays with in physiological
limits is? Homeostasis. I chose growth
Question # 23 the bond which is found between water molecules such as ice crystals is a hydrogen bond I chose ionic bond.
Question #24. All of the following are pigments involved in skin color except I chose hemoglobin the correct answer is Keratin. Hemoglobin slide 18 pigment rbc and Pink and red skin color.
Question #Mitochondria function to: I chose a manufacture protein but the correct answer is release energy from glucose. The smooth ER’s job is to manufacture protein. Question #29. The layer of skin that contains dead cells filled with keratin is the? The answer I chose was Stratum Granulosum but the answer was the stratum corneum. I chose stratum granulosum because the slide said in this layer cells begin to die. But the stratum corneum has the dead cells filled with keratin
Question # 30 the most chemical common bond in human body is the covalent bond I picked ionic bond which was wrong because ionic bond is for metals and non- metals.
Question #31 All of these are properties of water except B. absorb heat quickly I chose is an excellent solvent.
Question #32. Which of the following epithelia function in absorption and secretion?
I chose E. both a and b the correct answer was b and c squamous epithelial and cuboidal epithelia.
Question #33. N. Ticing Scent loves perfume. She visits her local discount store regularly. Today
she came to class wearing her latest purchase And soon everyone was familiar with the scent. what is being demonstrated here? I chose active transport but the answer was diffusion.
Diffusion is the movement of solute from a high concentration to a low concentration and active transport is
the movement of ions or molecules across a cell membrane into a region of higher concentration, assisted by enzymes and requiring energy. (pg. 71 Exploring Anatomy and Physiology in the laboratory)
