Fetal Development
Brianna Smith
Three Stages of Fetal Development
●
Zygote Stage- Week 1-2
●
Embryo Stage - Week 3-8
●
Fetus Stage- Week 9-38
Zygote Stage
●
An egg is dropped monthly by being released from an aviary
●
Sperm burrows through the cells that surround the egg to penetrate the cellular wall of the egg
●
Once this occurs, chemical changes happen immediately and prevent other sperm from penetrating the egg. ●
The nuclei of the egg and the sperm fuse together and the two sets of 23 chromosomes interchange (Professional, n.d.).
Zygote Stage
●
The zygote becomes a ball of cells and then become a blastocyst
●
The sperm fertilizes the egg in the fallopian tube
●
It takes about one week for the zygote to make its way to the uterus
●
During this week, the zygote divides into two separate structures
●
One structure is the embryo and the other is the placenta
