Bullying in the workplace Rose Weaver Professor Chiquita Blakely BUS 310 05/26/2024
What do you think causes bullying in the workplace? One possible reason bullying occurs in the workplace is because of work culture. The work environment is generally responsible. Varying stress at work produces bullying behavior, such as: role conflict burnout job insecurity excessive workplace demands. The other possibility is a personal conflict with the bully. Various personality traits can make them more likely to take on an adversarial role. Neither is okay or an excuse.  As an HR manager, what policies might you implement to reduce or eliminate bullying? As an HR manager, I would devise an anti-bullying policy. Writing down a specific policy detailing intolerable bullying behaviors is a way to document the rules. Then, I would have a plan for complaints and violations. I would implement a process for filing complaints and a plan to establish consequences for breaking these rules. I would adequately train staff to ensure they know what workplace bullying looks like. This way, there is clarity, and I can establish open communication. I would ensure everyone felt safe and supported while dealing with a workplace bully.  Are there ever any circumstances where bullying is appropriate? The only time I can see bullying as appropriate is because of doing a simulation or teaching someone how to recognize the signs of bullying. Other than that, I do not believe bullying is appropriate in any other circumstances. Bullying anywhere can cause severe emotional and sometimes physical damage to a person.
