IFSM 304 Week 6 Discussion Discuss an ethical issue IT organizations face today. Healthcare environments have integrated Information Technology more and more as the technology itself has grown. Healthcare environments face many ethical issues not only with people but the technology tied with those people. Hospitals rely on IT for an abundance of healthcare equipment and documentation so there are many issues ethically that may arise with this. For example, a patients records are inputted online therefore are susceptible to system vulnerabilities if they exist, if those records were to be compromised from an outside source you would rely on an ethical compass to take action in the best way you see fit. IT organizations everywhere face the ethical dilemma of doing what's right for the person or doing what's right for the company, healthcare is no different. Have you been personally affected by an IT ethical issue? Provide examples Yes I personally have been affected by an IT ethical issue. For me it was an issue of least privileged accounts, I was given access to change and affect more systems than I should have been allowed to. This would make my job easier as I would not have to coordinate with other agencies to accomplish a full job however, it was not the way jobs should be accomplished and would lead to one person having too many rights. The ethical issue was a decision to say something and complicate jobs for myself or to keep quiet and hope they never noticed so that I could do my job with ease. I chose to bring up the issue and be given a proper least privileged account. References
