Business Plan for CHILDCARE CENTER Courtney Morrow
First my childcare center will be located in Norfolk, Virginia in a space that is has a open common area along with individual rooms that can provide group learning for children ages 3 months to 6 years. We will provide care for children ages 0-6months, 6-12monts, 1-3yr, 4-6yrs. We will also have areas that are conducive to play outside and be free. Provide a detailed description of the childcare center to include the physical space and who the center will serve. The center will be at least 1500-2200 sq ft or more in order to serve the children from ages 0-6 years. Identify the resources you are using to develop your plan. I am using the department of education to develop some of my plans in regard to the building, teacher to student ratio and funding resources. Identify all staff that will be working at the center in any capacity. List the education requirements, if any, of the staff. Member of the staff will be myself as the director, along with one-two teachers for each room depending on how many children will be withing the different classrooms. Identify the necessary licenses needed to open a daycare center. A business license is needed, along with a food license to be able to serve food. I want to be on the same schedule of the school system and get assistant to have the state program for food just like public schools. Describe the age range of the infants and/or toddlers that you will serve. Infants will be 0-12 months and 1-6 years. Explain the child to teacher ratio that you will use in your center. There will be about a 6:2 ration for the infants 0-12 months and 1-3yrs because they need the most attention (diaper changes, potty training and feedings), then it will be a 10:1 or 2 teachers depending on how many students I have for the older kids. Describe the furniture and other materials needed: the furniture that I will have a circle table in each class that the children will be able to sit at, cribs/pack-n-plays for the infants, along with rugs for circle time, mats for nap time and finding creative toys for all ages for the kids, boards to write on for visual learning for ABCs and word familiarization. Identify what makes your childcare unique from all the other childcare centers in your city: My childcare center will be unique because I will be open until midnight for those parents who may work late night sometimes and cannot find affordable childcare. Will you lease or own a location? At the start of opening of the center I will lease until I can afford to buy or move and buy a bigger building to grow the business. What insurances are necessary to open a childcare center in your city? You need general liability insurance for your business in Virginia because you as the center can be held accountable if something happens in your care. But you also need insurance for your building as necessary. Are permits necessary? A permit for food, and a license for the childcare is necessary. How will you secure funding for the childcare center? I will start by applying for childcare grants provided by the state, along with a loan if not covered by the grant to start what I can. The department of education has a lot or new grants that are funded by different societies and places that should provide a great starting point.
