Business Plan for
CHILDCARE CENTER
Courtney Morrow
First my childcare center will be located in Norfolk, Virginia in a space that is has a open common area along with individual rooms that can provide group learning for children ages 3 months to 6 years. We will provide care for children ages 0-6months, 6-12monts, 1-3yr, 4-6yrs. We will also have areas that are conducive to play outside and be free.
Provide a detailed description of the childcare center to include the physical space and who the center will serve. The center will be at least 1500-2200 sq ft or more in order to serve the children from ages 0-6 years.
Identify the resources you are using to develop your plan. I am using the department of
education to develop some of my plans in regard to the building, teacher to student ratio and funding resources.
Identify all staff that will be working at the center in any capacity. List the education requirements, if any, of the staff. Member of the staff will be myself as the director, along with one-two teachers for each room depending on how many children will be withing the different classrooms.
Identify the necessary licenses needed to open a daycare center. A business license is needed, along with a food license to be able to serve food. I want to be on the same schedule of the school system and get assistant to have the state program for food just like public schools.
Describe the age range of the infants and/or toddlers that you will serve. Infants will be
0-12 months and 1-6 years.
Explain the child to teacher ratio that you will use in your center. There will be about a
6:2 ration for the infants 0-12 months and 1-3yrs because they need the most attention (diaper changes, potty training and feedings), then it will be a 10:1 or 2 teachers depending on how many students I have for the older kids.
Describe the furniture and other materials needed: the furniture that I will have a circle
table in each class that the children will be able to sit at, cribs/pack-n-plays for the infants, along with rugs for circle time, mats for nap time and finding creative toys for all ages for the kids, boards to write on for visual learning for ABCs and word familiarization.
Identify what makes your childcare unique from all the other childcare centers in your city: My childcare center will be unique because I will be open until midnight for those
parents who may work late night sometimes and cannot find affordable childcare.
Will you lease or own a location? At the start of opening of the center I will lease until
I can afford to buy or move and buy a bigger building to grow the business.
What insurances are necessary to open a childcare center in your city? You need general liability insurance for your business in Virginia because you as the center can be held accountable if something happens in your care. But you also need insurance for your building as necessary.
Are permits necessary? A permit for food, and a license for the childcare is necessary.
How will you secure funding for the childcare center? I will start by applying for childcare grants provided by the state, along with a loan if not covered by the grant to start what I can. The department of education has a lot or new grants that are funded by different societies and places that should provide a great starting point.

Opening Case
More information has been released on the case related to the Great Eastern Hotel we saw in Chapter 1. The turbulence in
the economic environment has resulted in policy changes such that banks, financial services firms, and automobile
firms-which all form an integral part of the hotel's target markets-have cut travel-related expenses for executives. No
longer can executives of these firms travel first class on their business visits; they must now use only economy class travel.
Moreover, they are now required to cut hotel stay-related expenses, so they have to stay in three- and four-star hotels and
not pay more than USD 200 per night. These restrictions have had a major impact on hotels like Great Eastern, which
Debbie and her executives must resolve.
The U.S. government is bailing out banks and financial institutions, and since Great Eastern has a major influx of
business travelers from U.S. firms, it is important that Debbie and her team consider the impact of government…

Manage Your Health, Inc. (MYH) is a Fortune 500 company that provides a variety
of healthcare services across the globe. MYH has more than 20,000 full-time
employees and more than 5,000 part-time employees. MYH recently updated its
strategic plan; key goals include reducing internal costs, increasing cross-selling of
products, and exploiting new Web-based technologies to help employees,
customers, and suppliers work together to improve the development and delivery
of healthcare products and services. Below are some ideas the IT department has
developed for supporting these strategic goals:
1. Recreation and Wellness Intranet Project: Provide an application on
the current intranet to help employees improve their health. A recent study
found that MYH, Inc. pays 20 percent more than the industry average for
employee healthcare premiums, primarily due to the poor health of its

The team has a detailed scope statement, but you want to make sure you are not forgetting requirements that might affect how people view the quality of the project. You know that the project’s sponsor and other key stakeholders are most concerned with getting people to use the new website, having successful events, and helping promote entrepreneurship across the globe. You also know that various geographic and cultural issues will need to be addressed.
3. After analyzing survey information, you decide to create a Pareto chart to see which types of guidelines for running an event generated the most interest. First, create a spreadsheet in Excel using the data in the following table. List the most frequently requested guidelines first. Use the attached Excel template pareto_chart.xls:

Can I receive assistance with the below two questions, please
PART A: Several years ago, Hurricane Gilbert destroyed thousands of acres of banana in Jamaica. Farmers whose crops were destroyed by the hurricane were much worse off, but farmers whose crops were not destroyed benefited from the hurricane. Why did this occur? What information would you need about the market for bananas in order to assess whether farmers as a group were hurt or helped by the floods?
PART B: Explain why the following might be true: A drought in the Caribbean raises the total revenue that producers receive from the sale of coffee, but a drought only in Grenada reduces the total revenue that Grenadian producers receive.
Ensure that you define any key terms used in your discussion.
