What are the two most important objectives for purchasing?
manage costs
Correct
This is how purchasing most directly impacts the bottom line of the company.
ensure continuity of supply
Correct
If the company runs out of raw materials, it has a severe impact on the production and can affect customers.
Can you think about what the importance of purchase orders is?
A purchase order is issued by a buyer to a seller, broadly defining the terms of sale, including types of products or services, quantities, agreed prices and when the payment is due.
5 phases
Process the purchase, monitor shipping, confirm receipt of goods, process the invoice, pay supplier
while a lot of companies still have decentralized procurement, it is best practice to centralize procurement.
Strategic suppliers are characterized by high impact on profit and high supply risk. These are the most important suppliers that we need to manage very closely.
Bottleneck suppliers may be rather small (for us) but they can significantly disrupt our business.
In the high profit impact, low supply risk category, we have our leverage supplier.
And then finally, in the categories where both profit impact and supply risks are low, noncritical.
When negotiating in general, you should strive for win-win situations, but this is even more important for strategic suppliers. Why?
These relationships cannot afford to be adversarial. Both companies' success depends on each other.
