Purpose of the experiment : In your own words, the purpose of the experiment including a brief description of the lab and the reason for doing the experiment (what we are trying to determine and how we will go about determining it). Explain the concepts we are investigating; explain why and how they are useful, how those concepts apply to the experiment; show relevant equations if you need to. The purpose of this lab is to understand and work with Oxidation-reduction reactions, otherwise called redox reactions for the purposes of the lab. Oxidation is the loss of electrons, meanwhile reduction is the gain of an electron. In a redox reaction, both processes occur simultaneously. For example, in a reaction that occurs between hydrogen and fluorine, Hydrogen is the oxidized atom and fluorine is reduced: H2+ F2----> 2HF. The oxidation half of the reaction could be written as H2---->2H+2e-; the reduction half reaction is F2+2e-----> 2F-. Within the experiment, we are trying to determine visual observations of each reaction and which atom and substance is being reduced, and which atom and substance is being oxidized.
Flow Chart: Complete experimental procedure for this experiment by using information provided in the power point and 360 experimental video in a flow diagram format. A flow chart indicates the procedure of how experiment is performed. The flow chart must be written in the correct flow chart format (box and arrow). Handwritten flow charts are not accepted. See the example of the flow chart in canvas module. 1. Measure 2.00 mL of 0.20 M FeCl3 in a 10.00 mL graduated cylinder and transfer into test tube labeled 1. 2. Measure 2.00 mL of 0.20 M KI in a 10.00 mL graduated cylinder and transfer into test tube labeled 1.; Stir mixture 3. Add 2 drops of 1% starch; Record Observations 4. Using barrel pipet, add 10 drops of 0.1 M KMnO4 into test tube labelled 2. 5. Measure 1.00 mL of 6.00 M HNO3 in a clean 10.00 mL graduated cylinder 6. Transfer the 1.00 mL of 6.00 M HNO3 into test tube 2 and mix the solutions with a cle stirring rod 7. Begin adding 0.20 M NaHSO3 dropwise into test tube 2. Stir the reaction mixture and record observations. 8. Continue adding drops of 0.20 M NaHSO3 to test tube 2 while string until no additional reaction occurs, and record your observations. 9. Measure 2.00 mL of 0.20 M NaOCl in a 10.00 mL graduated cylinder and transfer into test tube labeled 3. 10. Measure 2.00 mL of 0.20 M KBr in a 10.00 mL graduated cylinder and transfer into test labeled 3. 11. Stir the mixture in test tube 3 with a stirring rod. 12. Record your observations. 13. Measure each of 2.00 mL of 1.00 M HCl into two different test 14. in the test tube 4, add one pellet of zinc metal, and record 15. In test tube 5, carefully add one pellet of copper metal, and record your observations.
