Dear Parents/Guardians,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to inform you about an upcoming performance assessment that your child will be participating in and how their submission will be graded using a rubric.
The performance assessment is designed to evaluate your child's mastery of grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words. Students will be tasked with decoding a series of words using their knowledge of phonics, letter patterns, affixes, root/base words, syllable patterns, and syllable types. They will then create a multimedia presentation or project to
showcase their decoding process and explain the meanings of the decoded words.
The purpose of this task is to assess your child's understanding of word structure and their
ability to apply phonics and word analysis skills in decoding unfamiliar words. Additionally, the task aims to foster creativity, critical thinking, and effective communication skills.
The rubric used to grade your child's submission consists of four categories:
1.
Accuracy of Decoding:
This category assesses the extent to which your child accurately decodes the words and provides clear explanations of their decoding process.
2.
Depth of Analysis:
This category evaluates the depth of your child's understanding of phonics and word analysis skills by examining their ability to identify multiple layers of word structure.
3.
Clarity of Explanation:
This category measures the clarity and coherence of your child's
explanations of their decoding process, demonstrating their understanding of word structure.
4.
Creativity and Presentation:
This category assesses the creativity and visual appeal of your child's presentation or project, as well as their ability to effectively engage their audience.
