Short Essay Questions:

Communication:
Explain the meaning of communication within the restaurant industry and explain how in the last seven days you have displayed good verbal and non-verbal communication skills with your peers including the instructor. There is two different kind of communication communication, one is
assertive with is suggesting and the other is aggressive which is using an angry tone. Over the last seven days I have been using a mixture of verbal and non verbal communication with my new classmates. When I am disrespected or talked with to with aggressive communication I tend to retaliate with more aggressive communication which does not show my professionalism. Today I used more of my professionalism to retaliate when Roger used bad communication skills today.

Decision Making:
List three different examples of decision making in terms of guest service, organizational behavior and financial which you have made in class while managing the dining room.

When I had to give the guest a different mocktail because we
ran out of the first one.

When I had to choose either to get mad at Roger when he raised his voice at me or to just remain calm

When I had to decide how to set up the dining room
These decisions helped me realized that things aren’t always have to go my way and that when it’s time for me to work in the real
world I have will have to choose professionalism over my personal problems.

Respect for Individual and Team Diversity:
Using specific examples explain how you have shown respect for yourself and others while working collaboratively.
When it was the second day that my group had to be the managerial group Jay didn’t want to listen to our opinions on how the dining room wanted to be set up so I just set it up how he wanted to to avoid an argument.
How did you value diverse views?
I understand that Jay had a different idea but he put his hand in my face and told me to be quiet, instead of my arguing I just told him to calm down and to just talk calmly.
Explain the importance of embracing diversity in managing restaurants.
It’s important because sometimes other people’s ideas may be different than yours but it’s OK to just listen and when you get in
the industry in the future you will have to learn to cooperate with each other.
How did you take personal responsibility for your actions in the classroom?
When I told Roger today that I will go and finish cleaning up
the dining room he kept raising his voice at me and I just went to go finish the mess that I cleaned up.
