This class has been great, and I have been taught and I have learned so much. I really love that I got to know the writing process well and have learned how to write essays a lot more proficiently than I used to. I really appreciate that I learned more about effective communication and how to apply it to my future. Effective communication does not come easy to everyone. We are not born with knowing how to listen and communicate. Effective listening is a skill that must be developed (Carnegie, 2019). When you genuinely listen to what someone else is saying—not just what they have to say, but the complete context of the conversation—you establish a bond with that individual. The connection could last 5 minutes or 50 years. The truth is that communication either builds or kills connections (Carnegie, 2019). My field of study is nursing so that I can become a labor and delivery nurse. As far as effective communication in my field of study and this class I will apply the knowledge I have learned in this class, the strengths in communication that I can bring to it, as well as opportunities that I can work on regarding communication in my nursing field of study. I can apply the knowledge learned in this course toward effective communication by always being professional in my words as well as my actions and body language. I learned in this course that the way that effective communication can be demonstrated in my words by not using vulgar language or talking badly about anyone. Being thorough and precise when speaking to people is essential for effective communication because in my field of study as a nurse I will be talking to doctors and patients as well as other nurses. I also learned from one of my classmates that our actions, body language, and facial expressions are a type of way that we communicate and that becoming a nurse I will apply this by always being positive and engaged in eye contact and a smile or a positive facial expression and body stance. Areas of strength in communication that I can bring with me into becoming a labor and delivery nurse is my confidence when I am speaking. I mostly always speak with confidence to know and sound like I understand and that I really do know what I am saying. Another
